The Invacare Matrx Libra pressure cushion is a high risk pressure management device combining foam and gel in a similar way to how the Flotech Solution cushion does. The Matrx Libra cushion is suitable for wheelchair and powerchair users who score as high risk for pressure ulceration and who also require immediate or future-proofed pelvic management capability from their cushion.

The Matrx Libra is constructed of an anatomically contoured foam base that has the dual function of providing good positioning support for the pelvis but also to contain the gel sacs in their respective positions. The sacral well at the rear contains the gel sacs ensuring good displacement of gel but also preventing over-displacement which could lead to high risk pressure zones developing. The design of the sacral well is designed to manage the gel sacs even when the user is in tilt.

The gel sacs themselves are formed into a one-piece overlay which is replaceable if required. The overlay has two sacs at the rear to offload pressure around the IT's (Ischial Tuberosities - 'sitting bones'). The combination of the foam and gel makes this cushion quite heavy when compared to foam-only or air cushions but this trade off in weight provides gains for pelvic management capabilities.

Due to their high tolerance for user weight the Matrx Libra cushions are usually prescribed for people who require medium to high pelvic management, who score as high risk on the pressure risk assessment and who are in excess of 20 stone.

Clients on Matrx Libra cushions may typically spend upwards of four hours seated and may have reduced sensation of their sacrum. As part of a good pressure management routine clients may spend periods of time in a tilted position.

Where a client presents with increased pelvic complexities it is likely we'll not prescribe the Matrx Libra and will instead consider the Flotech Solution Xtra which affords much greater control over the pelvis. If however the client is between 21 stone and 36 stone we will revert to the Libra.

We typically have a Flotech Solution Xtra available for demonstration which is very similar to the Libra. If you'd like to take a look or receive some training on its applications please get in touch.

This is a product sold on prescription and is available in many different configurations. Getting this right for you or your client is of great importance to us and as such we offer free assessments and demonstrations.

Our assessments scale in complexity depending on the clinical requirements and can be conducted over the telephone for low complexity equipment or more typically here in the assessment suite or at your residence.

All assessments are currently free to both private and NHS clients for equipment with values over £150 ex VAT.
