The Invacare Matrx Flotech Solution Extra (written as Xtra) Pressure Cushion is the same as the Flotech Solution except it is designed to work with a positioning kit supplied separately. All the same information applies with regards to pressure management qualities and the action of the gel. See the last few paragraphs for what makes the Xtra different to the standard Solution.

The Matrx Solution Xtra is a gel and foam combination cushion rated for clients with a very high risk of developing ulceration, or for those who are currently managing existing ulceration.

The base of the Flotech Solution Xtra is constructed of a slim moulded foam that has the dual function of providing some positioning support for the pelvis but also to contain the gel sacs in their respective positions. The sacral well at the rear contains the gel sacs ensuring good displacement of gel but also preventing over-displacement which could lead to high risk pressure zones developing.

The gel sacs themselves are formed into a one-piece overlay which is replaceable if required. The overlay has two sacs at the rear to offload pressure around the IT's (Ischial Tuberosities - 'sitting bones') and a further five smaller sacs underneath the thighs.

The combination of the foam and gel makes this cushion quite heavy when compared to foam-only or air cushions, but where gel is required the Flotech Solution range is still the go-to range of choice.

Matrx Flotech Solution Xtra cushions are often prescribed for people who require medium to high postural and pelvic management, who also score as very high risk on the pressure risk assessment. Clients on the Flotech Solution Xtra cushions may typically spend upwards of four hours seated and may have reduced sensation of their sacrum.

Clients will typically indicate a correctable or manageable pelvic tilt, obliquity or rotation and/or windsweeping, adduction or abduction of the legs. The cushion kit is equipped with foam supports designed to aid in the management of these presentations with the aim of achieving a neutral position to aid best posture and function. A full assessment can be conducted by our team here to ascertain firstly which type of cushion is most suitable, followed by the type of additional supports that may be needed to improve positioning.

We typically have a Flotech Solution Xtra available for demonstration. If you'd like to take a look or receive some training on its applications please get in touch.

This is a product sold on prescription and is available in many different configurations. Getting this right for you or your client is of great importance to us and as such we offer free assessments and demonstrations.

Our assessments scale in complexity depending on the clinical requirements and can be conducted over the telephone for low complexity equipment or more typically here in the assessment suite or at your residence.

All assessments are currently free to both private and NHS clients for equipment with values over £150 ex VAT.
