The Invacare MX2 backrest is the ultra-lightweight postural management backrest for active wheelchair users. Manufactured in lightweight carbon fibre the MX2 backrest starts from just 700 grams and is as aesthetically pleasing as it is functional.

The MX2 backrest's carbon shell is constructed with several layers of carbon to optimise the flex and shock absorption properties of the backrest. This ensures flexibility when required to accommodate the movements of the torso, but sufficient stability to maintain a good midline position required for good function. Coupled with the carbon hardware for mounting the backrest to the wheelchair the backrest reduces shocks and vibrations typically felt through other aluminium shell backrests.

The MX2 is mildly contoured (equivalent to the depth of the Sunrise Medical Jay Medium Contour) with a depth of 76mm (adjustable to 108mm with hardware). The MX2 is available in four different heights depending on the level of support required and five widths to accommodate different torsos.

For clients seeking the most lightweight solution possible the fixed mount hardware should be used alongside whichever prescribed backrest is recommended - the smaller the width and height the lighter.

If you'd like to trial a Matrx backrest or would like to discuss the needs of your client with us please get in touch. We typically hold upwards of ten different styles of backrests to enable us to demonstrate the differences.

This is a product sold on prescription and is available in many different configurations. Getting this right for you or your client is of great importance to us and as such we offer free assessments and demonstrations.

Our assessments scale in complexity depending on the clinical requirements and can be conducted over the telephone for low complexity equipment or more typically here in the assessment suite or at your residence.

All assessments are currently free to both private and NHS clients for equipment with values over £150 ex VAT.
